Name
David Gunn
Age Group
The toughest one! 45-49
Years In The Sport
Been dabbling in it since 2013. Took it seriously for a while (2017-19) including 1:1 Coaching.
What brought you to the sport
Was a reasonable club runner as a bairn. Then took a rest week that lasted two decades…
Rediscovered running in my late thirties. Got un-fat, became a runner again, then became an injured runner. Bought a bike. Discovered riding was awesome. Bought more bikes.
Added in some cross training with gym and swim. Hey, I’m doing all the parts of triathlon. Let’s give that a crack!
Biggest Accomplishment in the sport
ITU Multisport World Champs in Pontevedra, Spain last year. Was awesome to represent my country! Was one six from 5,000 participants to complete all four events and was recognised as a Multisport Legend. I am SO not.
Profession
I trained as an accountant in the 90’s. Nowadays it’s Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer, or something similar.
How triathlon has impacted your life
In sport as in life, I’m a jack-of-all-trades, a generalist. Triathlon is a good framework for me to engage in the different sports I enjoy and gives the flexibility to dial up or down individual sports whenever I feel like it without meaning I withdraw from training overall. Oh, and the social bit (when we can)
Dream Goal
Not very tri but would love to do a massive exploration ride like the IndiPac, or Melbourne to Scotland.
Dream Race
I am not hung up on particular races. I rarely race the same event more than once. Most international events I’ve done have just been the excuse for a holiday in that country. Another World Champs maybe?
Something interesting about you most people don’t know
My ancestors were Vikings
