Do you know where you’re going?
Random approaches get random results. Athletes may ‘follow a program’, train daily and enjoy their training but the random combination of training sessions, race schedules and approach to nutrition, hydration, strength, recovery and even overall philosophy and methodologies is never going to yield best performance outcomes.
Rigidity in approach is going to be equally detrimental. Many will chase consistency by simply doing the same thing week in, week out and year in year out… or making the boxes on training peaks go green! This course doesn’t change even when there are red flags such as recurrent injury, illness, lack of motivation etc.
The body and brain respond well to variety but we still require clear direction, progression and evolution. We need to find a mix between variation and consistency in overarching approach.
Don’t go random, and don’t be rigid!
