Some motivation in the form of accepting the reality for everyone!

JD knocked out a half distance PB up at Sunshine Coast 70.3 with a 4.48. Not bad at 56 years of age and >10 years in the sport.

On face value it would seem he wasn’t at his best as he has had a few ups and downs, struggled with motivation at times and the curse of #agegrouperlife (ie. Life happens – work, family, other commitments)

But he got to the start line, controlled his thoughts, adjusted the goals and my race strategy was simple: go out, have fun and enjoy.

Reality is, this was a long brick session to test some things and have a solid session as we prep for Kona.

Good execution and good outcome. Now it’s recovery, rebuild and nail some key sessions as part of a consistent, well rounded program for the big island (sound familiar?)

In our sport it’s easy to have pre conceived ideas about where we are at based on:
– what we have done before in training
– What others are doing
– The so called ‘necessities’
– What we think we SHOULD have done

And a few ‘missed sessions’ mean we often feel like we have ‘failed’ somewhere along the way…

At the end of the day, we have to make the best of what we have got. Regardless of what that is. Simple. We all have the same goal really… be the best we can be!

Great case study by JD today:
– got to start line, fit, fresh and healthy
– removed expectations, cleared his mind, stayed positive and enjoyed his day
– Nailed the fundamentals of pacing, nutrition and hydration
