Generally speaking, as endurance athletes, we should be well equipped in a time like this. We deal with challenging situations all the time, including things not going to plan. We constantly exercise patience, pragmatism and positive daily actions. Retain this ethos and embrace the challenges we are all facing.
Many of you will feel overwhelmed as a result of the speculation of, and, actual change occurring. Stay grounded and ensure you look after YOU first. Then take care of family, business, work etc. Keep your ROUTINES and maintain your FOCUS. These may shift ever so slightly but they should remain. Now is not the time to give up, stop training or take a break – there is plenty you can do; so focus on these things and control what you can. Just like race day 🙂
Also, embrace the JET community. It mightn’t be face-to-face for a little while but we have platforms in place so everyone can feel like they belong.
On that here are some other things for you to note:
– Individual programming will be updated and adjusted a few days at a time… this week has been adjusted for the majority already
– The changes may be made at odd hours as I am spending ‘daylight hours’ on the phone – so keep checking regularly
– From next week we will have a ‘virtual ride’ option on the trainers… this will include a Zwift option
– We can look at setting up some internal challenges to keep us occupied and focused should there be interest for this type of thing
– There will be some content created for maintaining swim muscle engagement – simple things we can all do from home
– We will also have some polls go out to maintain engagement and a sense of team, so please get involved when they occur
– Let’s continue the race phase (for those that are in it)… there is enough change already occurring! We will evolve to the post season and prepatory phase in due course
– Finally, we are planning to have an ‘event’ in early to mid April (pending restrictions and bans) that can act as the ‘final race of the season’ for the majority of you. This will be a bit of fun for everyone and will include options for those outside of Melbourne, interstate or overseas. Stay tuned for more detail
What you need to do:
– Keep me informed as to changes in your life including: working from home/not working from home; illnesses or injuries; time commitments and availabilities; other considerations such as children being at home… this may change day by day and that is ok!
– Stay committed to daily training regimen as best you can and keep optimizing each day, each session – work with me to help make this appropriate
– Embrace the challenge this situation brings… enjoy creating opportunities to maintain health, fitness and keep moving forward #adaptandovercome
– Stay connected to our community via the means that you can
– Don’t think too far ahead – there are so many unknowns. Take a day by day approach and keep thinking about improving and progressing (like always)
Got your back
