Geelong 70.3 bike tips… At four weeks out.
BIKE FOR SHOW!*
We are four weeks away from the 2024 edition of Geelong 70.3 so here are a few tips on how best prepare for this course. Whilst this bike course is not ‘hilly’ it is certainly ‘undulating’ and there are a few climbs that will sting the legs if you do not adequately prepare and/or execute.
🚴 If you haven’t already you will definitely be rewarded by incorporating some hilly rides into your final month of training – even better if they are long rides. You might even consider some hill repeats of between 5 and 15mins. There is value in going both up and down during these sessions. Be comfortable on your bike and learn when is best to ride in TT position and when to sit/stand. Know how hard to push the climbs…
🚴 We think strength endurance reps should be a staple of most, if not all, training weeks but for a course like Geelong they are especially important. Strong and resilient legs will be of benefit!
🚴 Do some ‘race pace’ work on pre fatigued legs – this could be post hill reps or other hilly riding or after some other intervals but it’ll pay to know how that feels
🚴 Get comfy in your most aero position… practice. The course can be quite windy and exposed in some sections (*You also look better in photos!)
🚴 Consider your tyre pressure specific to your tyre width, speed and the course terrain
🚴 Stay on top of fueling and hydration at this race as the tough nature of the bike and run can mean you might be out there slightly longer and going slightly ‘harder’ when compared to a course like Melbourne 70.3
