Geelong 70.3 run tips… At four weeks out.

RUN FOR DOUGH!*

We are four weeks away from the 2024 edition of Geelong 70.3 so here are a few tips on how best prepare for this course. Coming off what can often be a tough bike ride regardless of your level of racing.

🏃 If you don’t already train in the hills then it is a good idea to try and get some hill work done – whether that be part of your long run or a dedicated hill repeat session. While the course isn’t hilly there are certainly a few undulations that will sting the legs

🏃 On that note, think about the impact of running DOWNhill as much as you think about the impact of the uphill sections

🏃 Some longer long runs (meaning longer than you typically do) are also a good idea to help ‘harden’ the legs, so too are long runs with some work in the final 20-30mins

🏃 Know how it feels to run off a hard and/or hilly bike course and consider your pacing accordingly

🏃Consider your choice of race shoe as well, especially if you are racing at the pointy end – the ups and downs of this course can really test the legs

🏃Give some thought to your hydration and cooling strategies too… it can get hot out there

The run course is a 2.5laps with the main climbs being at either end of the course and, managed correctly, you can still run ‘fast’… be prepared. Execute intelligently!

Share this with your friends and training partners racing Geelong… or don’t as it might give you the upper hand… 💁🏻‍♂️

*Truth be told, only about 0.02% of the field will actually be running for dough!
