Geelong 70.3 swim tips… At four weeks out.

SINK OR SWIM!

We are four weeks away from the 2024 edition of Geelong 70.3 so here are a few tips on how best prepare for this course. The swim course is simple and usually calm which means it can be fast… let’s make sure it is fast for you!

🏊 If you are not already doing so – get in that wetsuit! Ideally in OW, of course, but you can practice in a pool – outdoor 50m are best here. This goes beyond the obvious specificity benefits – you learn how to put it on, fit it, take it off, what rubs, how it feels, how your stroke changes etc…

🏊 Either in the wetsuit or out of it, or both – do some longer reps… The course is segmented in to three long sections between 400 and 800m – it pays to know how to pace nice and steady for extended duration reps

🏊 Consider and test your goggle choice – the second of the long segments mentioned above is typically straight towards a rising sun ☀️

🏊 Warm up? We always recommend an in water warm up when possible but do be careful Geelong as we have seen and heard of sea urchins in the shallows derail many a performance at this race. Also, practice a dry land warm up with (swim) bands if you intend on using one come race day – they are a great option BUT if you are not used to using bands they can be quite taxing and do more harm than good
