IM is a hard day, regardless of how physically fit you are. It is highly likely that the day will be a roller coaster of emotions and ups and downs. Inevitably things will go wrong. The people who can stay consistent from a mental and emotional stand point will generally perform well… Regardless of what happens.
All of the above along with the physical demands mean there is rarely one fix as well.
As always its about what we can control…
– physical prep
– swim, bike, run training
– PACING
– nutrition and hydration
– mindset and approach
– removal of expectations
– continual commitment to #BeYourBest… in every SINGLE moment and situation
We cant control the weather, the conditions, the other competitors, our ‘speed’ so we dont give that too much/any attention
Finally, dont put too much pressure on one race. As I said, IM is hard enough without that pressure. Do what you can in training to ensure you arrive to the start line fit, fresh and motivated. Give yourself the best chance of your best performance by managing yourself throughout the day and the outcome will take care of itself. Good, bad or ugly we dust ourselves off, we appreciate what we did, we learn and then we move on.
A never ending journey… hence we must embrace and enjoy.
