What brought you to the sport?
At Christmas in 2017, my aunty challenged me to do a triathlon. At the time I was still playing soccer, I did a fun tri in January 2018 during soccer pre season and absolutely loved it, wanted to do another. From memory I trained for 2 weeks prior to that first race, then I continued training on my own From January – April 2018 and completed 2 other races. The challenge and quick progression and fitness gains really excited me, I was hooked.
Biggest accomplishment in the sport?
3rd Place in my first 70.3 in Busselton, WA Dec 2019 and consequent qualification for 2020 70.3 World Championships
How has triathlon impacted your life?
Over the past 2 years, I have become a healthier, happier and more motivated person. The routine and the lifestyle this sport brings is truly amazing. I am a full time physiotherapy student, have 2x casual jobs and train 8-15 hours per week. It sounds like a lot and it probably is, but I have found myself become more productive, organised and efficient in all of m endeavours. Personally, working on my athletic potential has significantly helped me achieve my potential outside of the sport like at Uni, and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
Dream Goal
Part time physio – part time triathlete! Become a hybrid physio who can work clinically but also on the S&C/coaching/high performance side of endurance sport or soccer.
Race Goals (very much dreaming here)
– Sub 2hrs for an Olympic Distance Triathlon, Sub 4hrs for a 70.3
Dream Race
This is hard…a 70.3/Ironman in Europe somewhere. Ideally I’d love a clear ocea flat swim, flat bike with no wind and a flat run along the ocean. And yes, this was exactly the case at 70.3 Busselton in 2019, so I think that could be my dream race and potentially a great spot for my first full Ironman
Something interesting about you which most people would not know
– I’m a country boy from Wangaratta and have been in Melbourne for hte past 4 years.
– I am still involved in soccer even though not playing, as a sports trainer/assistant physio at Green Gully.
