Years in the sport

What brought you to the sport?
I was a swimmer growing up and one day a couple of swimmers on my team decided they wanted to do the Disney Triathlon Olympic Distance as a relay. Obviously all of us could swim, only one of us had a bike, and I was known on the swim team as the only swimmer with any semblance of running ability. I didn’t know anything about pacing, though – I ran a couple of 3:20 Kms and then blew up and finished the last 8km at 5 min+ pace. It was fun, though, so I bought a bike and started doing races myself after that.
Biggest accomplishment in the sport?
70.3 Pro Pan-American Champion in 2017. Not only because of the result and the title but because it was the best race I had ever put together in my whole career from a swim/bike/run execution standpoint.
How has triathlon impacted your life?
I’m happy to have made a career out of triathlon. I still have a few more years as a pro but it’s been an absolute blast traveling the world racing. From a health standpoint it’s also been nice avoiding the usual Collington family health issues – quite a few of us with Type 2 diabetes.
Dream Goal
Win Kona!
Dream Race
The most amazing race I’ve ever done is Challenge Iceland. It was like racing on another planet with the incredible scenery.
Something interesting about you which most people would not know
Since I run around in spandex for a living most people don’t know that I have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (which I have never used / had a job in the field).
