As the race season approaches here in Australia there should be a shift in training focus…
The key sessions will now begin to be centered around preparing body and mind for the rigors and demands of the race(s) you have on the calendar. Training sessions are the opportunity to work on the specifics required to optimize performance come race day.
With some forward thinking, patience and planning you arrive to the race phase fit, strong, healthy, robust and motivated for the work ahead. This will give your body the best chance of absorbing and adapting to the evolution in training load that is about to come.
The specifics will include things like intensity and pacing in and around race intensity as well more nuanced things such as sighting, nutrition & hydration and equipment choices.
Remember not to leave it all to the final 4-6 weeks, and also not to try and do it all at once… You cannot simply to ‘race pace work’ every session for the final 8-12weeks leading into your events.
Train Hard. Train Smart. Be Patient. Ensure you are adapting to the load. And, enjoy!
All the best, we will see you at the races… 🚀
