Key sessions – Race Specificity

During the race phase of training your key sessions should be centred around ensuring you are adequately prepared for the demands of the event in which you are preparing for. This should include some key stimuli such as race simulations but overall consistency is also of paramount importance. Remember too there are some simple basics, such as strength/strength endurance and aerobic efficiency that should remain constant and central to your programming. This is where year round planning comes in… you can and should arrive in your race phase, fit, fresh and ready to add the final layer of race prep. Race phase is not the time to start building! It also means you can build a robust, well rounded athlete… who can then specialise in their event/distance of choice.
