It happens, so what should you do?

– Don’t panic, it’s normal and it’s ok

– Advise your coach that you are not 100% so they can advise you

– Reduce training load in terms of intensity and duration

– Perhaps try switching your mindset from ‘training’ to ‘exercising’

– Don’t be afraid to take a day off – let your body tell you what it needs

– But… Don’t just do nothing if you can avoid it!

– Let the cold run its course whilst doing what you can to feel good

– If it stays above the neck (ie. All symptoms are at your ears, nose and throat) then the general rule is you’re ok to keep moving

– Eat well and stay hydrated.. increase your water intake by 15-20% and increase intake of foods high in vitamin C like kiwis and oranges ??

– If symptoms persist for over 7 days seek a doctors opinion

– When you do resume training you may need to reshuffle your schedule and your load but DONT try and cram and catch up!

– And finally, when you feel like your back and ready to train normally considering taking one more easier day… just in case! Much better than it hanging around…

Good luck and happy training!
